Biography of Chris J. Roy, Jr.
Chris J. Roy, Jr. is a lifelong Central Louisiana resident. He is originally from Marksville, Louisiana, and moved to Alexandria with his family where his father practiced law. As a third generation attorney, he has practiced since 1987. He has been married to Lelia Hopewell Roy for over 29 years. They are the proud parents of three children, Madeleine Clark Roy, an attorney in New Orleans, Christopher J. Roy, III, a first year Louisiana State University Law Center student, and John Roy who will start LSU undergraduate school in 2017.
Chris J. Roy, Jr. graduated with honors from Louisiana State University in 1984 with a degree in political science. Thereafter, he graduated in 1987 with honors from Southern University Law Center. He was elected as a member of the Southern University Law Center Hall of Fame in 2007. Following law school, he worked as a Ninth Judicial District Court law clerk under Judge Robert Jackson. He then practiced law for several years with his father, Chris J. Roy, Jr. until founding his law firm, Chris J. Roy, Jr. Law Corporation in 1990.
Chris has been a committed attorney in Central Louisiana for thirty (30) years. He is part of and understands this community. He will personally work with you unlike the television advertisers who aren’t from our community and who will pass you off to a paralegal.
Professionally, he is a member of the Alexandria and Louisiana state bar associations. He is also a member of the American Association of Justice, the Louisiana Association of Justice, and the American Bar Association. He is admitted to practice in all state and federal courts in Louisiana and the United States Supreme Court.
In 2008, Chris was elected to the Louisiana House of Representatives serving the 25th District. He served on the Insurance, Commerce, and Agriculture Committees. While a member of the legislature, Chris was named the recipient of legislator of the year for the Louisiana Orthopedic Society in 2010. He fought for the protection of the elderly from abuse, neglect and financial exploitation. He was also instrumental in passing laws to protect mentally disabled children. He chose not to run for re-election in 2011, to spend more time with his family.
While in the House of Representatives, Chris also fought for victims of crime and consumers as a member of the House Commerce Committee. He has represented hundreds of families whose loved ones were injured, or harmed as a result of medical negligence.
As a member of the House insurance and commerce committees, he fought for consumer rights against big insurance companies on all health insurance issues and insurance bad faith laws. He continues to fight for victims of other negligence to make sure that their rights are protected and that they receive fair compensation for their injuries.
On a personal level, Chris has served as a member of the Board of Directors for the Rapides Parish Children’s Advocacy Center and CASA. He also served on the Board of Directors of the March of Dimes, and has sponsored “citizen law schools” in the past for the Louisiana Association of Justice.
